The Violin Maker was made in five days for the 2009 International Documentary Challenge.

We were given the genre of “Biography”. Our team of three, Dan Thornton, Gabriel Miller and Greg Brotherton, made this profile of a local violin maker with a deep resonance to his craft, Doug Yule.

Chosen among the top 13 of over 140 submissions, the movie won “Best Use of Biography/Character Study Genre” and was screened with the other finalists at the 2009 HotDocs Festival in Toronto.

It also has screened at the 2009 Port Townsend Film Festival as part of the Docs for the Soul program.
